The newest, cutting edge approach to designing websites is called responsive web design. Thumbprint Media only offer this type of web site.

Simply put, responsive web design involves creating websites that are able to detect a visitor’s device. It will then customize the page display to fit that particular device and browser. Essentially images will adjust in size and page layouts will shift as you resize your browser window on any device. Even better, the entire website view will adapt to fit different computer devices. For example, If you open a responsive website on a desktop or laptop, the site will automatically display in the optimal format for desktop screens. If you open the same site on your mobile phone however, you will see that the size, format and even amount of content displayed will change to fit the reduced screen size.

This is all accomplished through the initial website design, creation and coding. The same HTML code is used for each page for all devices, yet the way the page is presented can change due to CSS media queries. These queries specify which CSS rules apply for the particular browser that is currently displaying the page.

The responsive approach to designing a website provides an optimal user experience. Visitors to the website can freely access the site using multiple devices. They can easily read the content and can navigate the site with little or no need for resizing or scrolling.
